There's been a lot of speculation about being able to sex a clown loach based on its caudal fin. From what I remember reading, a male's caudal fin is supposed to be curved inwards while a female's will have straight inner edges. You can check the info on www.loaches.com They've also got a decent forum there.
I have read several places that you can tell clown loach sex by their body shape. The taller bodied loaches are female while the shorter height loach is the male. It's hard to tell when they are little, but once they are over 6", it begins to show.
