I have the possibility to buy 2 eels from a friend of mine. They are armatus (tire tracks) and already quite big. if i estimate now i'd say 45 cm on the male and 35 on the female. The thing is, in his tank they do nothing but hiding. It would be cool to have those fish but i dont wanna re-arrange my tank and to be honest i dont want to put pipes in. Do you think the fish will be ok in such a different tank? Any ideas on how they might react? i have 2 fire eels now and they are hand tame, you think the big tt's might become like that cuz they are so shy now?

100 cm isn't out of the ordinary for a tiretrack. Fish tenf to train each other on how to eat. If you're hand feeding your fire eels, the tiretracks will probably start to investigate when they get hungry. If your fire eels don't hide, the tire tracks will come out too, after they get used to the tank

How do you sex a tire track? expecially one that's 18" or 14"?

you can mix them, I had a fire eel and a tire together and did just fine.

they dont go in the same tank as my fire eels, thats why i am a bit worried about their future behaviour...
I'd mix them initially until they adapt to your feeding system.

You missed my question about sexing the eels.

tbh i dont really know. my friend says so and i knda trust his judgement after 5 years of eel-keeping. i must add that the female is very very fat. not like food fat but more like egg fat.
i know i can mix but due to overcrowding that tank i rather put them in the other. i can also get another fire eel so im not 100% sure to take them... another 3 eels will make that tank overcrowded too with my datnoid and another panaque to enter that tank soon too.
man, why are things never easy?? :(

i might just stick with one fire eel i can get from him and leave the armatus. that way i can add the other fish without worries about filtration etc.
