With the different manufacturers of fake rocks how would one tell if they are safe for the aquarium?

I'm not sure about fake rocks. I had a fake peice of would and for some reason all my plecos kept dying :-( They would last about a month and then poof! Dead! I pulled out the fake piece and put in a real piece with much better results. If you can go all natural.

Can't you email or call the manufacturer?

why not just walk out into your back yard and get some rocks and just wash them off i do that all the time look about better than fakes too

I second that. There should be a brand name, email, website, etc. somewhere on the rock.

PS If you do go with real rocks I have heard if you put a little vinegar on them and they bubble don't use the rock. Not sure why just info in my head that I felt I needed to share......anyone know a good shrink? I think there's more stuff that I need to get rid of.

It means they will increase ph...not always a bad thing...

yes.... on the other hand fake rocks ( if hollow with now whole) will float... if they are have a rock with the inside cut out they are pretty good and do owners for caves... just do as stated... call the manufacturer

I put the majority of my rock collection in my tanks. Looks nice and keeps the pretty rocks in a safe place.

I also sink dried up cactus and cholla wood easily collected in the "desert" for my tanks. They waterlog quickly and my fish love to hide in them.
