big filters for big fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Believe me, if I could "double up" with UGF and a power filter, I would, but most of my tanks are cichlid tanks and they'd just dig the filter plate up. :swear: I haven't had any trouble with clogging or noise on my TetraTec, but I'll keep an eye... uh... ear on it. ;)

I used a couple of security latches that are like stainless steel locking hinges glued in place to hold the ugf plate in place in a tank with a pike cichlid that thought he was a bulldozer. He still sometimes uncovered portions but couldn.t move the plate, they cost about $5 for 2 at glass shops.
One reason I like two filters is I run them off different electrical circuits so if a breaker trips I have some time to take care of it and the tank still gets filtered.

If youre looking at price. go with the aquaclears, very cheap to operate. If you want a better quality filter go with the canisters.

For sure, always lookin out :woot:

i use an undergravel filter from perfectaflow and it works great. Its got bubbles on one side and a powerhead on the other. Then I have an emporer 400 and a wisper 40-60 hanging on the back. My water stays absolutely clear in my 55 with 2 9 1/2 oscars and an 8 incher and a 7 inch jack dempsey.
