It goes without saying, that big fish eat little fish; but I just wondered if anyone had success stories or tanks where they have had large display fish co-habit peacefully with small fish such as danios, tiger barbs, even dare i say neons? (ok stretching lol).

Only reason I ask, is that I have danios, tiger barbs, odessa's etc in with a blood parrot and clown loach; and its nice to watch nobody eating anyone else.

Of course, if that lasts is dependent on how big the BP gets, but yeah please share if you've had this work before :D

I had zebra danio and neon tetras with polypterus. It was peaceful until polypteri figured out how to take down danios and neons.
Within days havoc wrecked and peace equilibrium went tits up.

I have small loaches in my squad in my poly tank. no fatalities yet.

I have heard that BP's tend to be aggressive but I wasn't aware that they ate other fish.

My BP hated the silver dollars that I added in recently, then calmed down towards them after a few days; she ignores every small fish, including cories, danios, barbs...I think she would try to eat neons. Doesn't bat an eyelid towards the clowns. I get the impression its just big targets she doesnt like

Maybe she reacts to what she perceives to be threats to her dominance of the tank.

Think that's probably quite true lol, it's somewhat gutting though; means I'd have real difficulty assimilating another BP with her if the opportunity arose.

She also fights elodea, bites driftwood, and attempts to attack her reflection on the bottom of the glass; when the sand is moved about haha

That's all gym work. She's trying to stay in top shape to take on or out any potential contenders.

I've never seen a blood parrot take down a fish.
