Sorry if this is in the wrong place but I wasn't sure which category it fit in.

Well since joining this site I once again have an itching for a monster fish, only this time I want to be prepared ahead of time so I'm going in with my eyes wide open. Some time in the near future I plan on getting a monster fish my only problem is I haven't decided on what. The three main fish that I'm really interested in are a Clown Knife, Silver Arowana, Albino Channel Cat.

I have done a lot of research on here and everyone seems to have their own opinion on what the minimum housing for these fish should be, unfortunately I live in an apartment and buying a house is not an option at this point in my life so my tank options are somewhat limited. The tank I am looking for is a 220-240gal, I don't think I would be able to go much larger. The LFS said they can get me a 220gal (6x?x?) for around $1200. My question is will this be a big enough tank to house 1 or possibly 2 of my three choices thru adulthood without be to cramped?

Thanks.

Just get a 300gal, i got a 240 wide tank and i have a 30"silver thats doing fine

A couple Clown knifes should be fine in a 220gl.

its hard to say bc some times i have heard of ck get very aggresive when they get big. but i think with a 220 gal. a good size ck and a albino channel and siver aro would be fine. i mean u can rais ethem to get big in that 220 and u will hav ethem in there for a while(depending on how big u buy them, but full full grown i dont know if they will have enough room. bc channel cats alone get big and eat anything.

Or go to al your lfs.. Cause Our tanks new seem to be similar price as acrros the country Back East... And My LFS is pricing around 300 to 500. Unless your looking for the whole set up. Then you can still get everything dirt cheap locally or on e-bay. This is my opinion only.. Hope it helps... Shop and save... Local news paper lo cal websites!!

ya glassgages has some awsome deals on tanks

leave the channel out. large mouths, faster growers. hungry fish. afew knives and aros will work. If things don't work about the tank limits, and you get something live a 55, there are quit a few knves out there that will fit the bill. also, look into bichers. If you want variation among your clowns, get a royal to go with them. The tank the lfs offered you: is it just the tank? If i can find a good deal on a large tank in NE im in

I have looked at there site before, they do have great prices however my only concern is the money I'd save on the tank/stand I make back up in shipping. The $1200 for the 220 at the LFS was for tank/lid/stand. One of the reasons (other than there one of my favorite) I chose the Channel is that they are a fish that mainly hang around the bottom of the tank while the Aro is a top water swimmer, that way the two fish would have there own swimming area.

The only two knifefish that I'm really interested in are the Clown and the Royal, from what I've read they are very delicate until they reach 10-12". I've never seen the Royal for sale locally and when I see places that sell them online they're always sold out and I'm sure probably not cheap. The Clowns on the other hand are cheap and readily available (sadly):( .

ya the shipping is killer. if u call u can ask when they will be in the area. i guess they send a truck around the u.s all year and they stop all over so u could see when there gonna stop close to u next

maybe you should try having an australian arowana, a jardini is really quite cool. and it would flourish in a 220, no problem. a bit agressive though. actually a real bad ass
