A 180 may not be big enough for any ray for life. Even a smaller one like the hystrix. Plenty of people with lots of experience with rays will tell you a 180 is too small for the life of one.
Went with the idea of a black aro because they are easier to sell/give away when large compared to silvers.
As for the hystrix size..yes I have heard. Im more comfortable getting the 6foot x 30 inch..but according to someone here breeder hystrix rays has said that a single male hystrix ray which are considerablly smaller then females could live in a 180 with proper filteration...however like mentioned I would be more comfortable with the larger width tank.
black aros are great because the value of the fish keeps going up when it grows. Way better than silver since they get "uglier" (IMO) when the grow bigger and they might develop drop eye.
Pearsei, Bocourti for big cichlids. They are pretty good community choices. I have a school of red hook silver dollars (x7) in my 210g. They are an impressive sight, but can be skittish.
Thanks keep the suggestions coming lol because as i look thru i kinda like draw out a tank and picture how the tank would look like lol weird i know...just gotta make this tank look like the center peiece of the new house...and of coarse make sure these big fish wont bother the hystrix.
flag tail prochulodus... spelt wrong!-) are cool, black barred silver dollars get big sometimes up to 18inch ive heard... giant gouramis can be evil and wont last in a 180 tbh... syno catfish some hit 12inches
tbh? nothing.. the geos and ray should be centerpieces enough... just do a nice décor scheme that works for the ray and the geos and should look nice. imo your going to be well stocked as is once the fish grow out abit. If your dead set on a top dweller a small group of African butterfly fish imo could be a nice addition they don't get overly large.. give that arrowana.."feel" and are a unique oddball. w/ that much room they may even breed for you. Oh and they should get large enough not to be prey for either your ray or geos.
