A decent smart phone does a good job now, I leave my dslr in the cupboard and use my Sony z3 with its 20mp camera... Unless your gonna get over tank flashes and really learn how to use it I can't personally validate the time and money.

He's still in his 75. I unfortunately won't upgrade him until I move about a year and half from now.
The dslr isn't just for the fish though. There area that I live in has a healthy wildlife population and id love to get some nature photos.

Nothing special. Just windows movie maker. I used to use Sony Vegas back when I was filming and skating every day of my life lol so I have a fair amount of experience editing little videos like this.
