Big lipped red devils

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
if they are wild caught maybe but they get the lips from scraping algea from rocks so probably not. the only ones I have seen with big lips are wild caught. you could try growing algea on the rocks in an outside tub with lots of snails in it to mimic their natural feeding habits.

Well the lips are from suction not scraping against algea they use this to suck their prey out from the rocks like a vacume

You are talking about a trait that was formed in the red devil as a part of evolution right?

Im sorry to be so blunt but you can't expect your fish to get big lips just because you try to feed it algae... It doesn't work like that.

Genotypic traits vs. phenotypic traits...

If you had rocks with crevices and holes and a food source similar to the natural diet I see no reason why you couldn't perpetuate the big lip look. The hard part would be finding suitable rocks and food...

The only thing that's going to be achieved is having some malnourished fish, with regular lips.

I'd suggest capturing Mick Jaggar and extracting his large lipped genome and adding it to the Devils fed.

Failing that you could get lotsa larva rock into the substraight.
