When is the last time you guys seen longnose gar in 15"-20" sizes avalible in the fish market? Any ever avalible? I just need to know how odd they really are. In my eyes they seem to be very rare. I've never really seen them for sale, hints why Im asking all of you to voice your knowledge. I only see babies for sale. Never bigger sizes. Thanks, John

never seen bigger. then again iv only been really into gar for a few years now

There's someone near me at college with a 24" longnose gar for sale for $25, but other than that I haven't seen any for sale around 15"-20".

Are the majority of longnose gar for sale in the market farmed or wild caught? From my understanding, it's pretty hard to find longnose gar at that size in the wild, so that could be why they're rarely available.

LNG of that size are not common in the hobby market but are not unattainable either. I do come across them but not in abundance.

I would however think that from a market retail perspective that they would be hard to move off the shelf (or aquaria I guess)

agreed.

most LNG's that are coming through the hobby as YOY fish aren't getting up to the large sizes anyway...these gars really seem to stunt moreso than the others, particularly the males. i haven't seen a captive-raised-from-YOY LNG over 20" personally, i'm sure some exist, but they are few and far between.

as for larger wild-caught specimens, as richard said, they would be interesting, but likely hard to move (literally and economically based on demand). LNG's are pretty delicate fish when it comes to shipping or just moving larger specimens IMO/IME --

u saw a white speciemen and didnt grab it? tisk tisk.

If i ever get my gar pond up(hope to do soon but gotta get my caiman enclosure done) Ill want some LNG

Your LNG seems to have a particularly long nose, as compared to Xander's LNG (previously mine). Solomon, I'm sure you're able to give us an explanation reGARding this?=)
