We all know how aggressive they are towards other cichlids etc. but my question is. Do they ever develop the "Get the f**k away from my territory!" attitude towrads myself that we would expect to see in a Managuense or Midas for example?

My fella is around 9" now and looks superb. But is still very reclusive.

I think it helps if they grow with the other fish that way they are acustomed to be with other fish but if the fish grew up by itself then you put it in a coomunity tank id think it would be more likely to be aggresive. But then again every fish is different. I've seen buttikafris in community tanks but everyone ive seen in person is a complete pycho path and kill all tankmates single specimen tanks

I edited the original post to elaborate.

They grew out in a comunity with a large Black belt and Jack dempsey etc. and have been housed solo in a 120g along with 4 Giant danios since he was 6".

Here's a tank shot.

My 7" male will run away and hide or come right out to try and scare me away. At 5" he always ran away. So he's definitely becoming more outgoing. My midas would bang the glass at 4" or so, but would hide at any sudden motion. It wasn't until he was 8" or so that he became the outgoing fish that we expect a midas to be. My male festae is NOT one bit pleased that I swapped in a full divider from a partial one at 7:30am this morning. He was chasing the female around too much, so I cut him completely off. He seems to have a chip on his shoulder today. Elevated water temperature probably has something to do with it as well.

I have owned on for about 4 years now. He is about 13" or so. When I first got him he was about 3" and I put him in a 75 with a JD and a GT that were both bigger. They were both dead the next day... He has been alone ever since in a 90. I will never try to put anything with him now that he has been alone for so long. It looks like you have him in a 6 foot tank so you may give it a try with a smaller female with alot more dithers. The danios are great because they are so fast they generally can't catch them. I seem to always have better luck with opposite sexes.

Here is a pic of mine... Good luck!

Nevermind... I looked at you photo and noticed the female you have in there. Sorry. But on the hiding I did see a big change once he started getting a little more robust in the head. I also put some big plants that provide a conopy in the tank and he loves it.

I think you guys are misunderstanding the question.

What he's asking is will his RT get the aggressive glass banging attitude towards HIM....the owner.

Probably depends on the individual fish.

Progers, your male rocks, btw.

Spot on, matey.

Progers, that's a beautiful big boy. Does he backpedal at all when someone walks by, or is he care free when it comes to people?

The main reason i'm asking is that i've been eager for another Managuense for quite some time now and there's someone interseted in my male Festae (To breed with his large female.). I really like the Festae but is he ever going to measure up to a Mana when it comes to a "wet pet" and the "backoff" attitude?
