Thank you! I never clean the back glass and the tank has been up for ten years, I don't know what it is but I can tell you that it feels like thin wire if you try to break a piece of it off

Tie some down on a rock or piece of wood, maybe it would grow. Could also make an algae scrubber if you have sumps
