I have been told not to buy perfecto tanks for leaking or breaking... I wanted the 265 but now I'm worried. Any one have any experience or any other info on this? Is it even true?

My distributor friend has told me not to get large Perfectos. He says he has seen them crack and break. He said that Oceanics are his first choice. Again this is not from personal experience. HTH ;)

I have a 220G Perfecto tank over 4 years old. No problems here.

ive had a 250g perfecto for 2 years now, and the guy i bought it from said he had it for atleast 5 years. and this has been a pacu tank since it was made, first black pacu from the original, and now my red bellies.

*knock on wood* its held up to the abuse of a total of 8 pacu so far through its life, and the only thing wrong is the top wood trim is coming off since its 4 pieces, not 1 whole. so id say its doing pretty good

i will add, that the glass seems to have a greenish tint to it, which ive heard others complain about also with large perfecto tanks. i know my water is clear as can be, yet the tank makes it seem otherwise slightly.

All of my large tanks (up to 265) are perfecto. I've never had an issue with them. Since the factory is in my area, there is a ton of their tanks around. I know repair has several of them as well. I've never heard of one breaking or leaking.

have a 55 perfecto, seams broke and started leaking after 3 years of use, i don't plan to buy any more in the future, love my AGA's..

All of my larger glass tanks, (which included Oceanic, Perfecto, and All Glass) alll ended up leaking or breaking.

The Oceanic was a 150 gallon and the center brace failed and the tank bowed out about 10", Replaced it with a 300 gallon Tenecor.

Had a Perfecto 210 gallon that decided to develop a seam leak on the bottom after 15 months. PetSmart was nice enough to replace it with a new one. Then 10 months later that one leaked as well in the same area. Both failures resulted in total loss.

All glass 180 side split open and drained. Caught this one before it was too late.

All tanks were brand new purchsed by me so no second hand issues. Oddly enough my last AGA 210 was used and it never had a problem after 3 years in use.

I now will never buy glass tanks ever again.

my 150tall is a perfecto and I can see the on the inside that the seals are starting to fail... only about 3-4 years old.

I have a 1988 55 gallon perfecto still no leaks and just bought a new 265 2 weeks ago so I hope no problems

I know there was a thread on here a while ago about a 220 perfecto cracking - massive damage.

I am in the market in the near future for a large tank (150 or 180) and I have been debating on which brand to get.

to me, Oceanic and All-glass at least appear to have better silicone work and thicker glass than most perfectos..

having said that the newer perfectos at my LFS that I have seen (with the Marineland labels all over the place) appear to be much better - thicker glass, better silicone work (more silicone, not as sloppy looking).

I wonder if Marineland has upped the quality control of Perfecto?

I would not be surprised.
