my nitrates and nitrites in my smaller tank went up and wont come down ive done multiple wate changes they are at the highest color on the indicator :irked: how do i get them to go down and what is causing this?

The response of contaminants, such as nitrites to water changes is always linear. For example, if they were initially 100 ppm and you performed a 50% wc with water containing 0 ppm, then your new tank level would be 50 ppm. The fact that you have performed wcs and have detected no decrease simply indicates that the level has exceeded the sensitivity of your detection system. Continue with the wcs and they will indeed come down.

Definately, I'd bee looking for it. While you're at it, do a thorough cleaning of the substrate, under all decor. Lift out anything hollow & smell inside. That's how I found the body. I was lifting up the ornament to clean under it but the water & body stayed inside, until I took the whole thing out. Boy that was the most rancid odor I've ever smelled in my life!

You are definately going to rehome that A. knife or upgrade.
