he is a fresh water cichlid? salt? I did change allot of water today but I don't want to shock him in this state

aquarium salt... not sea salt... it will help...go to petsmart and ask for aquarium salt...

Sea salt or aquarium salt either wll work just fine. I always use whatever brand of marine slat is the cheapest. Personally, I think you need to do a near 100% water change.

I think the first thing you need to do is to check the parameters of your water. Checking the water quality should be the first thing you should do. If the eyes are cloudy, it could be from ammonia burn. If your ammonia is high, continue to do small water changes often until you get the ammonia level down. I can't tell you how important it is to check your water every couple of weeks. Go to your lfs and buy a water test kit. That might just give you the answer. Good luck, The Doctor.

Your nitrates are probably through the roof. When you change the water make sure you get into your gravel with a gravel vac. Eye clouding is usually a result of poor water quality. You really need to keep up on water changes, at least a 25% water change every other week, it is best if you do it every week.

You might want to try daily 10% water changes with the addition of salt for however much you take out (approximate is fine). If you could put up a picture it would help everyone here.
