Im looking for a big pump to run several sponge filters with, for my breeder setup's. Right now i need it to run about 6 sponge filters, but in the future there may be more.

Any suggestions would really help.

thanks

you can order pumps(air) from some of the online stores that are designed to handle multiple tanks. Some are even wisper quite.

A linear air pump can handle over a dozen sponge filters. You can find them for sale on aquabid and ebay for between $30 - $80 depending on the cfm level you need.

is there a rule of thumb for size of sponge vs CFM?

Standard aquarium sponge filters require about 0.05cfm of air. Higher (by 0.02cfm) if using an airstone. These numbers are to be used as a starting point for calculations. Required flow also must have spec gravity, water depth, and type of air stone figured in.

thanks guys i will check those out for sure. See the problem im having is when i split the air hose with the Y splitter to two different sponge filters, the air only goes to 1 of the filters for some reason. And someone suggested that my pump wasn't powerful enough.

Do you think this one would be a good purchase? I use the hydro 4 sponge filters

Thanks :)

You will need to get a splitter that has valves and that will let you balance the air between the filters. I would get one with 4 valves and you might be able to run all 4 filters.

yeah thats exaclty what i have, the 4 valve splitter thingy : )
