Awesome tank/footprint. Are you going to keep this a closed loop system with the holes on the floor or patch them up? I am loving closed loop systems more and more these days.
It all comes down to your goals. It can be more expensive on the initial investment but the time you get back and pros far outweigh the cost IMO. Being able to backwash a filter and never have to open it is a pretty big difference vs filter socks etc. And bonus points: backwashing drains the tank for you at the rate your pump will flow. Much faster than conventional draining. If you keep doing manual changes it will help your routine. If you switch to drip it can fill the tank back up for you.
If you decide that is a bit more than you want to bite off at first you can always use a PVC plug in a bulkhead fittings and use those to block the holes so it isn't permanent.I have a few tanks set up this way. Now if I ever decide to convert the tank I have the option down the road. Just something to consider.
