Hey Liz,

I just gave our pacu some potato slices. They were in hog heaven. Our fish are voracious eaters. When they inhaled whole almonds without chewing, it scared me. We don't feed them nuts anymore.

I am glad they liked the potatoes.. i never feed mine nuts anymore either.. even if they chew them {a little} they still come out pretty much the way they went in... and i found them clogging the filter.. they can live without the nuts.. i was thinking of trying a couple of cooked kidney beans for the extra protein.. i will let you know how that goes in the next few days.. they are on my shopping list because i plan on making some chile:D

Wi th all of the misinformed petsmart custmers who have purchased pacu for their giant 55 gallon tanks, there is a need for a "Pacu Rescue" organization. Where I work, we take in pacu and sell them to people who have sizable tanks and charge a small fee for the cost of feeding them. For as many as we can take in, there are at least twice as many that we must turn away due to limited space/demand.

That is soooooo sad.. but at least where you work they are willing to take as many as they can into their care and rescue... that is a great place to work..the owner is definitly into the welfare of fish and not just the money, i wish they're were more like him/her.

I am glad we are on the same wave:D

Liz,

I just told my husband how I had given our pacu some potato after reading this thread. We put some potato slices in, and Leonardo was such a hog, he had a huge piece in his mouth--I was afraid I would have to do the Heimlich Maneuver on him. I quickly got my new camera, but had to get the manual out and read up how to take video shots. This is my first attempt. Unfortunately, the pacu weren't as hungry, half a potato later...ha ha.

haha cool video pacu mom. I liked when they both had the same piece in their mouth.
Although just a fraction of the size, that's exactly how my silver dollars behave when I put in algae wafers, they're awesome to watch at feeding time.
