Okay so i go to the fish store today to get some goldfish feeders and when i look in the feeder tank, theres a 4-4 1/2 inch tadpole swiming around in there, so i tell the lady ill take it along with the goldfish, so she just gave it to me.

Its like 4inches maybe alittle bigger, and it has spots all over it, not black like a normal tadpole.
Its also still in the first stage.

Any idea of what it could grow up to be?

also, what do i feed it:confused:

most tadpols eat vegatible matter wow i'm sorry but you know the green plant that you eat on burgers and sandwichs i can't figur out how to spell it man its the hardest word to look up but it and other plants also they eat moss and stuff like that in the wild
but they sound like bull frog tadpulls just by the size

Lettuce?
haha

Thanks, David

Probably a bullfrog based on the size. If it's that big it's probably heading for metamorphosis. They're basically vegetarian/scavengers.

If you want to get your tadpole to grow quickly, then give him lots of protein. I did a project with the growth rates of certain native frog tadpoles in college and meat in their diets sped their growth the fastest. I would also give your tadpole some sinking fish pellets to feed on as well. Oh yeah, and from the size you mentioned it is probably a Bullfrog tadpole. They take a while to metamorphous, 1-2 years usually.

Damn! 1-2 years!!! Is there anyway to tell how old it is right now?
What would you reccomend feeding it?

Yep, 2 years! Bullfrog tadpoles usually hatch out in July and remain in the ponds through that summer and the following winter, metamorphosing in August or September of their second year. That's just how it is. But your tadpole sounds big and this might be it's second year.

You can't escape the fact that they are primarily herbivorous, grazing on algae and detritus. But see if your tadpole will eat bits of sinking fish food, freeze dried shrimp, ground beef & tuna. Feed the last two in small amounts at first to see if it likes them. They will foul the water pretty quickly. Proteins help to speed up metamorphose so when you see legs sprouting, try adding some meat to the diet.

they are too messy and they urine too much.It can be very harmful to you when it gets big.Feed it baby fry!

Okay i tried to feed it some lettuce..but it seems as if he dosnt want anything to do with it. I also tried a sinking alge wafer...same thing, nothing.
I will put some goldfish flakes in there tonight and see what he does.
