Congrats.. you gonna patch it or cut that section off and shorten it? Great tank either way.
Not exactly sure yet....., have to wait until I see it tomorow......., Upon first thought...., -I'm thinking cutting
and patching- I think I am going to go the way that Neoprodigy suggested. I think making the first 1' of that side of the tank into a overflow/wetdry would be best....., I may even get rid of the other overflow at the other end and just have one large overflow with alot of flow in the tank. I'll have to patch the whole and sand and buff the weld marks where I remove the existing overflow, but I think its possible to get it looking decent not perfect though.....
As far as the cracked area...., I'm thinking about VERY carefully cutting just as much as I need out (he says only about 8" from the side) this will allow me to get a new 3' x 4' x 1" piece of acrylic (overflow) into the tank. I will then weld that in very well as this will be the new edge (extent) of the aquarium..., making the aquarium 11' long now with a 1' overflow compartment. After this is pefectly welded/dryed and confidently water tight....., then ill move onto patching the 8" by 3' by 1" piece that I cut out. I will weld this piece back in....., and then laminate/weld an additional piece directly behind it (inside the new overflow area) This piece will be 1' x 34" x at least 1" thick. It will run from the existing side piece of the aquarium (the end) to the new 1" thick overflow piece. I believe this piece along with the additional 1" thick overflow piece will help make the aquarium as strong as it was before it cracked.
To finish it off I think I will paint the 1' overflow area black on all sides (except for the maybe the side..., 3' x 4' face) so that I can hide all of the new cutting and patching. It will/should almost look like it was ment to be that way......
If I am able to situate the tank perpendicular from a wall then I will probably do that it...., depends how big my new basement turns out to be....
I actualy think a tank like that will be awesome to divide a room with, as long as there is space...
let me know what you guys think...... And thanks for the congrats....
