I'm on the verge of acquiring a massive, awesome 392 gallon tank. It is 84x36x30, and I got it plus the stand for a great price. My plans are to convert it into a south american tank, but I have a few problems.

One problem is that I have never taken care of a tank over 180 gallons. I do plan to have white sand on the bottom, from pool filters. But what filter should I use? I was considering double Fluval FX5's, both of which I can afford at a reduced price. Or should I go with a specific wet-dry filter.

Another consideration are the fish. I plan on having silver arowana, which I have had before, but only up to 16". After that size I donated them to people with suitable aquariums, because I don't believe torturing them in a small tank for my viewing pleasure. I do believe this tank will be big enough for a grown arow. How many can go together without crowding or fighting, and can I add a jardini, or aren't they compatible. I have some time before the tank arrives, but I need as much help as I can get. And who better than my fellow monsterkeepers!?!

Oh, and what would you suggest for cycling the tank? I have a lot of gravel and an extra filter from another established tank, so I can jumpstart the cycling. But are there any fish suggested for cycling large tanks? I don't want to buy 300 zebra danios.

for a tank that size I would recommend a wet/dry assisted by 1 (or if you wanna be a true MFKer 2:D) FX5 for mechanical filtration as for fish I will let someone else cover that

ditto: wet/dry

I just used feeder comets to cycle my 210g aswell as old filter media...

12 cents a piece!

Thanks, but what about the arowana compatability?

I'm highly interested in this too, as that's like the size acrylic tank I want to build, and I also want an aro. Re: jardini, there's a sticky in the aro forum about jar's and tankmates and it's apparently an iffy proposition; it would suck to have a jar that kills everything taking up that entire tank.

For filtering I'm probably doing a decent sized w/d, ~75gallons or so. I'll probably have a large canister or 2 along with it, maybe an fx5 and an eheim.

And if for some reason the tank doesn't work out...feel free to send that tank north...my way :)
