I wonder how that would compare to the weight of a waterbed, especially once you add the occasional really fat chick someone may bring home and put in that waterbed when really drunk.

It would obviously depend on the size of the waterbed, but the weight per square foot of this tank will be much more than a waterbed (with or without the fat chick).

As for the original poster there is no way I would ever have anything over maybe 120 anywhere but lowest level personally, but I am no structural engineer. With the size tank you are talking about + stand and everything you should be well over 3000 pounds in a relatively small area.

I would also assume your lease prohibits any fish tanks or at a minimum fish tanks over a certain size. Whether you have moral qualms about violating that or not though I would certainly be concerned about the liability you will be taking for damage to the building (as well as belongings in apartment below you). Even if the support is fine things sometimes happen to tanks and that would be a lot of water...

I would definitely get a green light from someone else. That is an enormous amount of weight and apartment buildings aren't always built with the best of materials. Short cuts are often taken. Seems a bit risky

Being too careful never hurt anyone. I'd get an expert to check, especially since it isn't my property. And ITA about getting renter's insurance if you don't already have it.
