Big Water Change

Yeah drastic water changes like 95 % is like practically suicide.

I dont care how bad the situation is, you never ever ever do a water change that BIG. I once did a 75 % water change and I almost lost all my fish. If you situation is that bad! I would then recommend 50 % water changes weekly. If you did one on a sunday then you wait till next sunday for the next one.

Beneficial bacteria wont be completely wiped out, but their numbers will go down drastically, which in return does not better all the fish in the tank either. You'll see murky water and then your fish will start dying out.

If you have a situation, 50 % Water Change is the way to go. Its safe , and theres nothing wrong with 50 % new water coming into the tank. After a few days they'll probably be happier.

Take this from me, I am one big idiot who has gone through trial and error learning about this hobby and I have take a lot of casualties because I thought that changing water like 75 % and 95 % every week was perfect for my community tank. After the second week I lost half my original stock:WHOA:

sounds like your doing something wrong, ive never had a problem and ive done proboably 10 or more 100% wc's and countless 75% wc's. beni. bac. does not live in the water and wc's will not affect it if done properly. some discus breeders do daily 100% wc's.

Beni Bac does live in the substrate as well. I dont know then.......

I know for damn sure that aquarium stores dont do 100 % water changes every week. What would they do with the fish tell them to hold their breath until they reverse the python and enough water fills up for them to breath again:ROFL:

I mean seriously though, unless you have a fish that releases waste the size of corn niblets or golf balls or having an overcrowded aquarium with so much bio load that your filter cant handle it, then I wouldn't worry about 100 % water changes every week.

Im sorry If I sound water conservative or something :grinno: But I have never heard in my entire life of anybody doing 100 % water changes every week and having their fish alive and happy.

In fact my mother thought it would be goodfor the goldfish if she did 75 % water changes every three days because they give out a lot of waste and they died like 2 weeks later.

I mean what do you expect is going to happen if you put fish through constant shock?

We dont need to be "Water Changing Nazi's", I encourage w/c depending on the bio-load situation.

who said anything about 100% every week or lfs's doin 100% wc's? the only reason i have done 100% is because of moving or swapping tanks. some, deffinately not all, discus breeders do 100% daily to provide the absolute best water quality.

water changes dont kill fish, people that dont know what their doin kill fish.
