Is how i was thinking of doing a w/d for my 450+gallon tank, But with like 4 extra bins full of sponges. Would that work? or do you know a better way to do a diy w/d that would be good enough for a 450gallon tank? i only plan on using a 1,200gph overflow but i will add some hob filters.

So i was gona do a 1000gph pump cuz with all the material it will be pushing around1,000gph.
So would this work or is there a better way.

Personally if you are going to do a custom w/d I would just go all out and use that as the exclusive bio filter. For a 450 gallon tank I'd be doing at least 4000 gph rated. Not one that is rated at 4000 at 0 foot head either, one that is rated at 4000 gph at 4-5 foot head. I'd be shooting for 8-10 times turnover.

Well, Imho i dont think a tank needs to be turned over more than 3x. If the bio media is large enough than i dont think you need to. Rally thinks this also.

Thats why i;m only gona be doing a 3x turnover. But i will have some hob filters also.

I will, it will be bio balls, sponges. and some of that blue floss stuff.

Also, one of the Bins will have carbon, bio max stuff. And one bin will have an air pump pumping alot of air.

Depends on the species... I prefer the higher turnover, but 75% of my fish like a good stong current.

This w/d i do will have 100+sponges and 100+ bioballs. So it will go through some major media. And i planned on adding a powerhead to my tank.
