bigger pond

I second the much larger pump and defitinitely go with a 55g drum or very large rubbermaid container. I am basically doing an outdoor wet/dry system for my 70 gallon pond with a 950 gph pump, to give you an idea.

what shall i use as filter media in the 55g drum?
You can use everything from gravel ,plastic media,to filter mats.Install a false bottom in the barrel to hold the media.Feed the water to the bottom of the barrel. The water goes up through the false bottom and media.Near the top you need to install a large bulkhead w/pipe for the water to exit. Also under the false bottom a drain with valve needs to be placed so you can clean the filter. To clean it turn off the pump and open the valve. The water will backwash the dirt out the drain.

Do a DIY filter. The money that it costs to buy that pondmaster will have you kicking yourself in the a*s evry few days when it gets clogged when you could have bought a 70 gal. rubbermaid tub for about $60.00. Again, invest it the pump. Try to get a high effecient one. It mat cost a little more up front, but the energy saved wiil make up for the initial costs.
