I was wondering about what catfish has been known to get the biggest, So post it up and give me some answers?

Mekong catfish holds the record for largest catfish ever caught anywhere 644lbs if I remember correctly. Second place would be the Piraiba (Brachyplatystoma Filamentosum) out of South America where there are lots of 200-300lb specimens and reports of 500+lbs and 9ft.

Mekongs and Wells are illegal in the US however the Piraiba/Jau/RTC are the next largest species and are available in the US.

You forgot the tapah! They get massive also and are available to us. There are many huge species of catfish in the hobby. Let's not forget flavicans, and asian rtc. I know everyone thinks asian rtc don't get that big, but I have pics of one that was over 6' and almost 230 lbs. If that's not big just remind me what is. Also paroon sharks get massive in the wild, but I don't think they are well developed in the hobby. I want to see some over 4' in aquariums. I've only seen about 3'. The list goes on also, but these are the ones that ring a bell. Most really large catfish grow suprisingly slow, and live forever. It's estimated that piraiba may take 100 years to grow to more than 500 lbs. None have been caught at that size this century, but they were certainly caught over 1000 lbs in the 1800s. Mekongs were reported over 1200 lbs in the 1800s, rtc were reported at 400 lbs in the 1800s, jau were reported over 750 lbs, blue catfish over 300 lbs. Then there's the european wells. There's pics still around of 800 lbs, and they were reported over 18' and 2000 lbs.
