Temensis get to 36", they are both known to grow to similar sizes, however Pbass have storys about them growing much larger.
Isn't it true that Emperors die after breeding? Might be an urban myth,

I heard that emperer die after breeding as well. That is only in the lake though I believe. It is because both parents spend so much time protecting the young that they don't eat and just become to week and die. But I also heard that is is mostly the female that dies too.

Actually, they are rumored to only breed once, and that its BIG....they do it monster!! Thats why they spend so much time guarding their young is cuz they only get one chance to pass on their genetics.

I've heard they can be hella aggressive too, especially once they hit 12" or so...is this true? Cuz if its not I actually want to get some...:P....be great for my pikes! well, for a while anyway...:P

I love him. I am usually not much of a cichlid guy, but this one is just too cool. He gets along great with all my fish and is starting to show alot of blue spots and color. He also eats everything and is very personable. He likes to swim with my Tarpon. LOL. He is non aggressive towards my other fish. I hear that you can keep them together with other Emperors, but when they get about 12" they start to beat up on one another. I have only one and he is in a 240 with a nile perch, chinese perch, barramundi, 3 tarpon, tigrinus cat, and a gar and they all get along. Someone took a small bite out of his tail one day, but it has since grown back. I highly recommend one if you can get one.

the Lfs I go to has a 175g with a emperor at 1.5ft. He isnt aggressive to the Managuense or the Texas's that are about 10-12in. That same store also has a 240g reef tank and a 660g with 2 huge rtc's.
