SO. I had been planning on getting a 55, but found a 100 gallon with everything I need for $300. The tank is practically new, he's just upgrading and needs to get rid of this one. Going to check it out tomorrow to make sure everything's in good shape! Wish me luck on that!

Anyways, I want a GIANT fish. Well, as giant I can get in a 100. What would you guys recommend? I like colorful, active fish.

Thanks! :)

^ X2... depends on the dimensions...

Also, do you mind 1 monster fish in a 100G, or you hoping to add other fish in there as well for a sort of community?

Oops, sorry! 5 feet long, 16" deep, 24" tall.
I could go either way, single fish or some sort of community. As long as it's giants ;) I think I might prefer just one(or a couple?) large fish with maybe a bottom dweller, but I'm open to suggestions!

Biggest fish I'd consider putting in a tank with those dimensions is probably 12", and personally I'd go a bit smaller. Watching a big fish in a tank that it can barely turn around in just doesn't do it for me.

Hmmmmm... you could do one of the freshwater puffers... although i don't think any of them will really big enough for you to consider a monster in that tank, since a fahaka won't work long term, and most the other puffers top out around 6" - 8" i think?

Although with that being said, you could maybe look into South American Puffers? they are the only puffers that are known to do better in groups of 3 or more... but as a heads up, they do and most likely will require teeth trimming around every 6months - a year depending on growth rates...

If you want something exotic you can probably go with a Flowerhorn, though Flowerhorn are normally very aggressive I have seen them with other Cichlids and blood parrots.

A pair of oscars would be quite good,
But for me 100 gallons is the bare minnimum for oscars, but in some cases a pair of oscars have grown to full size and lived for 10 years in a 75 gallon tank. A Ghost knife would be good, mabye a couple of archerfish, some species of archers can be 40 cm long, freshwater puffers may also be good, maybe a barrumundi, i still haven't heard back on my barrumundi care thread, so i don't know that much about keeping barra as pets, what i do know is you should get a species of barra that only grows to 60-80cm NOT the barra species that grows to 2m and they are from the tropics of australia (
I live down south) and they can survive fresh, brackish or salt water and they need a heater.
