I think this is a hybrid, texas x jd, or galaxy cichlids. Nice fish though.

We need more pics then. If this is a male then it has to be a hybrid. If it was a true jd it would have to be female with all those gill plate spangles.

I thought the same thing when I saw the photo. The color and spotting was a bit off and the body looked taller. It could just be the camera angle. I have nothing against the the Texas x JD hybrids, just haven't seen a JD that looks like that...
 
Here is mine, he is around 8 inches. I've had him for 3 years now.

These are some really nice dempseys.

Where are the females? Everyone is posting males, I'd like to see some females!
