Currently I only have 2. The female pictured below is just a tad under eleven inches long. My male is just at six inches and growing fast. My first Jaguar back in the early eighties reached only a chunky thirteen inches but was surprisingly thick and heavy. My second Jaguar was just over seventeen inches. It was the largest I have ever had. I know a man named Glen in Las Cruces NM who had one that was over twenty-one inches. It is the largest I have ever seen in a captive aquarium.
In the wild they get some bulk and size.
Here in Florida they have become established in the waters of some canals around the Miami area. Fishermen call them Leopard Bass. They are devestating indigenous fish by out competing them. Some fishermen have reported specimens over two feet long. I don't doubt it at all having seen Glen's fish. The biggest wild caught specimen I have seen in a friends photo was eighteen inches.
With enough space, food, and time I am betting they could become monsters. The majority of the Jags I have had were between ten and fourteen inches.
