man i wish i had a picture of my old convict. my first fish ever. had him in a 5 gallon for about 3 years and neglected him for the last year or so. got a new 20 gallon whichi stocked with various random fish. then the thought came to me that i should stick him in there. to my surprise...he was an absolute beast! about 4-5 inches in length and girthy. he immediately took a liking to his new abode and took over the tank. some of the most beautiful coloration ive ever seen in a big male convict and the dopest tattered tail and flowing trailers... reminded me of an old tattered pirate ship flag. till this day i have yet to see a convict compare to him. he died for unknown reasons about 2 years later. may his little fishy soul rest in peace! Ive come a long way since the seventh grade and i hope he forgives me for the years of torment i subjected him to in the years he spent in that dinky 5 gallon tank on my desk top.

Yes, I'm very familiar with this thread. However, it's really old and is titled " old old convict". My thread is more focused on large male Cons (young or old).
Wow sounds like your con was awesome! Id love to see pictures. He was probably stunted in the 5 and then he caught up to what his size should have been in the 20. Not uncommon at all. Ive heard of it in many situations

Heres a pair I had that were different from the convicts found in my area. The big difference was the oversized extended lower lip. Heres some pics on the link below. The male was very very big.
