Biggest mistakes you made?

Dieselhybrid Dieselhybrid ... just as a matter of interest...if you have a new ray that is still not taking pellets how would you administer the metrondazole?
You can also dissolve it in water and inject it into other foods like shrimp, cut fish, and even live worms. I have done this many times in the past with prazi.

More than a decade ago, i only caredabout fish, didn't bother with the physical aspect of tanks. Got this old 2nd hand tank 8x3x2 for almost free (it was already kept dry for a year or so), used it for marine couple years, then changed to freshwater. Foolishly decided to DIY my own version of bakki shower on top of the tank, with no additional support. As anyone would guess, bracing broke, filter box and glass covers and bracing all crashed into the tank. Comm tank of 9 x mature red aros. happened during the night. i woke to find 8 x dead red aros on the floor. quit the hobby for years. to this date i can still picture the scene extremely vividly lol.

All these responses are great. It will help anyone who is thinking or currently have rays check and avoid making the same mistakes we made.

It would actually make a great sticky. Great to see all the variety of mistakes that can be made. I have a saying I use all the time: there are a lot more ways for things to go wrong than there are ways for things to go right in this hobby!!

I almost made the mistake of feeding my ray dead black worms. Thankfully I searched online and found a few videos showing and explaining how to keep the worms alive and to rinse the container everyday. Inspect for any white worms and throw them out.

Geez man cheers to you for coming back to the hobby. I know that was a difficult situation my man.

yea man that incident totally killed my interest in fish keeping, not to mention i didn't have the monies to get back what i lost, so i just gave away everything n quit totally for a good couple of years.

didn't even intend to restart tbh, but ironically i ended up working at a public aquarium... and i guess the fire got rekindled so i decided to get ONE simple tank with like 1 aro n a ray or two.... and then u know how the rest of the story goes lol.

Shark13 mentioned great options. you can pull it into an insulin syringe and inject into small pieces of fish, or inject directly inside of live feeder fish or worms and then feed them.

Don't put metro in the tank water, it's unstable and crashes quickly in a large systems. Plus expensive.

to touch on the theme of this thread I have overfilled fishtanks more times that I can count over the year. if you do manual water changes set alarms when refilling from a hose or python. I rusted a really nice steel stand and took a lot of work to fix when i moved it.

Better yet plumb everything to overflows and have a drip. then you don't have to worry about the drip over flowing or you when doing the occasional water change.
