Hello,

sinze i am thinking about getting a Bagarius Yarelli, id like to know how big they really get in an aquarium and if they can be considered fast or slow growing species.

For example a red tail catfish might not reach the same record sizes as the goonch, but we all know they grow so damn fast, that you need to upgrade the tank really often.

But how about the goonch? Some species seem to rather small in terms of the final size, but of course we all know of those monster yarelli which have been measured to weigh ober 200lbs.

But if i get a 10" goonch, how long until it reaches 40"? How long until it reaches 60"? And is it even realistic, to say, that most yarelli reach something like 60"?

Greetings

The biggest I've heard of was around 3 feet... In private home aquarium that is.

I got one of the bagrius yarelli india and got it in November 2014 at 6 inches and now it is 9 inches. I keep him at 70 so that might cause him to grou slower but i cant imagine how long it would take for a 6" one to get 3 feet. You can get small ones for around 250$ with shipping from wes wong

Hi Marcus, the two from the top of my head are;

Liam Irons-Mcclean posted pics of his friends 4' goonch not long ago
Arapaimag had a 3-footer

Wtf that's insane Liam :D very impressive though
How's your collection getting on ?

Holy ****ing ****! That is a big cat! How big is the tank? How big was this cat when he got it? And how long did it take to reach this outragious size?!

Because normally i read more stuff like Monster Fis wrote, that they do not grow too fast. Also how do you tell weather you got one the smaller staing ones or the true monster?

Great pic of being up close and personal!
