  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think a 20-25ft snake could eat a human or a teenager atleast

DAMN those guys are big. How big are they exactly?

Harley, the smaller in the pic, is right at 14' and about 60lb.

Brutus, the big guy, is 18'...but he's almost 200lb.

It's actually been proven that a sizable snake would not be able to eat an adult human. Their jaws are not able to fit over the shoulders.

A small person, or a child...sure.

I understand how one could come to such an assumption...

But allowing yourself to make assumptions can unnecessarily feed both fears and restrictions on these animals...

Relying on factual studies is a much better approach, and as quoted, it would not be possible for even the largest of snakes to consume an adult...

Of course it could kill you. A 6' Burmese Python could kill you.

Brutus is always relaxed, "tame" and has never once shown any aggression (even when I was giving him injections of antibiotics), but I never assume he's a tame animal.

The study that was done shows that because the human prey would either being laying face up or face down, the Pythons jaws cannot stretch enough, laterally. If said prey were laying on their side (shoulders being vertical), then it is quite possible for a large Python to eat a human.

It'd make it hard for them to position a body, in that certain manner, when they have no hands, though.

anything can kill you, I heard of someones hamster getting out, and going to sleep on their mouth and they choked or something, cats kill babies all the time

A snake that size could kill a person with no troubles at all. They say anytime handling a snake over 6' you should have someone with you just in case. Of course people do it ALL the time, but still, if it got around your throat it could be very dangerous. I'm a big guy and I feel I could over power my 5' and under GTP's but anything bigger gets to be quite powerful, and many owners don't realize how powerful because their snake has never given them a real squeeze. So when it does they are caught off guard by how much strength they have. My buddy has a 12' Retic, and he used to have a burm that was only like three feet long and one time it mistook his arm for food at feeding time and wrapped up his forearm. It took him and his two brothers like an hour to get it off. Meanwhile he was bleeding like a stuck pig LOL. I can't even imagine what kind of force something like Brutus, let alone something even bigger, could produce. :nilly: :headbang2

One thing that has always bothered me was the possibilty of taking a hit to the face. I could take it on a limb, hands, or my torso no problem but getting bit in the face would suck, bad! These things have some serious teeth when they get big and could maim you pretty badly. When I've held my friends Retic (it's more like the snake is holding you LOL) there are times it will look you right in the face and I swear it is like looking down the barrel of a loaded gun and there is nothing you could do if it decided to strike for whatever reason, since it is already wrapped up around your body.

There is a full bottle of Vodka, within arms reach of Brutus's cage. No matter where I am, if he has ahold of me, I can reach the Vodka.

I feed/water/clean cages, of all of my snakes, alone but when I'm alone, I take much more time and precautions.

I don't care how long you've had snakes (or one in particular)...it only takes one time.

I've had Brutus pull me in his cage before, just as I was trying to pick him up. I was pulling on the first 4' of his body and he body bluffed me. Before I knew it, my feet were almost over my head and I was in his cage, head first.

I can't imagine (nor do I want to imagine) what it would feel like, if he got ahold of my face. His head is about 10" long x 6" wide...completely open, it would envelope my whole face. With over one hundred, 3/4" teeth, in a mouth that big...well, I'd probably piss my pants. lol

I've had a 10' Retic, of mine, put my whole arm to sleep, in a matter of minutes. I don't want an 18' long, 200lb snake on my ass. lol!

I'd bet a big constrictor could swallow an adult if they tried doing it feetfirst.
