whats that stuff that he painted over the wood so the water would not go through. did he then paint it dark blue.

I use marine epoxy resin (same stuff sailboat hulls are coated with). All joints and seams are reinforced with fiberglass mesh. Color (tint kits) can be mixed into the resin before applying to the wood.
