Bio balls or Live rock for the sump?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
there's nothing eating the things in the sand when it's in the sump...
i would keep sand in both...
if the skimmer isn't a Hang On the Back type they usaully HAVE to go in a sump...

So how does this sound. I have my sump with 3 chambers:
1st) drain water, heaters, skimmer
2nd) live sand 6" thick, the rest with live rock fully submerged
3rd) return

How does this sound?

thanks

 sounds good if you can keep the sand in place...

Ok, I heard from someone that deep sands beds are no good. Also Bio balls are no good.

What do I do? What about 1.5" os live real sand for the main tank. with about 240lbs of live rock. then I fill the sump with Lr and use the skimmer also.

Would this be a good idea?
