Yes

There are actually several hundred species of bacteria alone that can undertake nitrification. Nitrosomonas and nitrobacter are only two of the genera with this capacity. Obviously under such a large selection of bacterial species you will find different species that like different surfaces. One thing you also have to keep in mind is that a lot of other bacterial species, for instance many heterotroph species, also like biofilter surfaces.
