Bio Balls vs Scrubby pads, the final showdown!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I use K1 in my sumps, or alfagrogs in my sumps i did before i found K1. It's a very high surface area biological media aimed at ponds.

But because it floats if you stick a airstone underneath them ,it keeps them shifting keeping fthem from clogging.

Check the catalogs ..or maybe dollar stores or warehouses like costco.. just make sure the scrubbers dont have extra chemicals.. check the label.

I get these from Dollar General & the Dollar Tree stores. A pack of 6 for $1. The Dollar Tree let's you order by phone (case load only). I ordered 2 cases for a couple of large filters I'm putting together. There's no extra charge for this service. 144 scrubbies= $24.

For the people that use the scrubby pads, dont they clog up? They would seem to clog up much faster than bio balls or ceramic rings.

Well that all depends on how good your pre-filter is.
