What could I use in my magnum besides the activated carbon it comes with??

And do i throw the bio media in there the same as i would the carbon??

Yes, just put some in where your putting the carbon. Theres not alot of room in there so if its your only filter you can hook a biowheel up to the hotmag.

im also running a tetra 30-60 and I might be adding another one along with a sump pretty soon =/

The housing on the Magnum HOT is fairly small which limites it's effectiveness at bio filtration...

You can put any bio media in the housing you like, and can find a place to fit it... rings or similar can be placed in the center instead of carbon... sponges can be placed outside the basket...

bio media will be a bit more effective in lower current areas of the housing (allowing more dwell time for the bacteria to do what it does)...

But all in all... in my experience fancy bio media is not necessary to host bacteria. Provided an aquarium is properly cycled and allowed time to mature, there will be planty of surfaces in any system to host bacteria...

If you find yourself needing more bio action..A mesh bag, holding media of your choice can be hidden in your tank.

ditch the carbon just put stuff some scrubbies or something else bio in there

I will try to find some scrubbies when I go to town today, but should I use scrubbies or Biomax?

thanks, I will have to order those.

Would it be worth it to just go ahead and get the 24 oz?
