Well I have been told to toss the carbon and replace it with bio media...

What do u think I should do??

If a cycled aquarium has zero ammonia and zero nitrite... there is enough bio-filtration taking place…

There is an argument that adding additional bio media will accommodate the bacteria in multiplying if/when it is necessary to do so (such as the addition of new fish). I question the legitimacy of this view based on two thoughts A) there is likely plenty of existing surfaces in the aquarium to house the expanding bacterial colony, & B) In a canister filter there is no more oxygen in the water than anywhere else in the system therefore bacteria is not any more likely to grow here than anywhere else.

I fully accept I have somewhat non-conventional views on this and feel free to do with my opinion as you please.

I use the Micron Cartridge with the Blue sock over it in my Magnum HOTs…

I do not use carbon in any of my aquariums...

alright, thanks for your insight... I was thinking about using that cartridge anyways =)

also the magnum filters can be modified to hold more media you dont have to use the media basket just use the little sleeve that goes over the impeller and you can add more media around than in the basket just make sure it cant get to the impeller

the micron cartridge is good for very clear water

Thats why I am using it =) plus I am about to add a 20G sump to the filtration system so all should be good
