I think the Fluval Biomax is the best bang for the buck biomedia. ;)

Eheim substrat pro is the best I have personally used. Ive had bio balls fluval bio stuff and the works but I like substrat pro the most.

By what means are you comparing this media? What did you find favorable about the ehfisubstrat pro?

Bderick is your post pertaining to substrat or substrat pro ?

As I said that was from a year ago and I don't know how the Ehfisubstrat pro compares.

My bad , And I was just curious about the comparison as I can't make one of my own never used the regular substrate. I have only used the substrate pro and the stuff that came with my old fluval and bio balls on a sump. For me it seems the substrate pro worked best at colonizing but without scientific data and each tank being different circumstances and sizes that makes it incredibly hard to compare them and I was quick to point to the newest media
(Guilty as charged :). Just offering my favorite bio media I researched the substrate pro a bit and its promising albeit slightly expensive.

It is my understanding that bacteria clings better to sintered glass than ceramic media. Seachem thinks a bit different.....http://www.seachem.com/support/SpecificSurface.pdf

Either way if you have enough surface area for your bacteria to colonize on then thats all that matters. If you have enough bacteria covered media to process your bio-load whether it's substrat pro, seahem matrix or whatever it will do what it's supposed to. Bacteria will not survive on all your media.

alright thanks everyone... i think ima put in mix in some matrix in with my pro since matrix is the only think i can afford righ know :/.
