I have a 75 gallon tank, that i know is exteremly Overstocked so please look past that. Its a grow out tank, but I think I am having trouble with massive amounts of extra waste in the tank. I do weekly water changes and am running two Magnum 350 Canister filters on it. So I know there is plentyof filtration, but I have tiny white particles floating on top, and all in the water that make it look really bad. I notice that while doing water changes the white particles get worse, so im thinking it might be from the water Im using. has anyone had this problem before? or any suggestions? I treat the water with tap water conditioner after water changes. but i cant seem to figure it out.
thanks

You want us to look past the fact that your tank is overstocked, but then you say you might have a problem with excess waste? Well, overstocking leads to excess waste. Also, just because it is a grow out doesn't mean it can be overstocked. I'm guessing your overfeeding your overstocked tank, which will always cause water quality issues.

the cheapest and easiest way to get extra mechanical filtration is with a power head. find a rigid 1 or 2 litre bottle that the opening will fit onto the bottom of the power head and cut off the bottom, and stuff with poly fill quilt batting. i do this with a 2000l/hr power head and change the polyfill fortnightly. i dont do this because i overstock, but because its a 600l oscar tank and they are very messy eaters. its just cleans all the fine crushed up pellet out of the water. power head cost me $12.00 and batting $7.00 for a bag that lasts 6 months and a empty juice bottle

Thats an interesting idea for a pre-filter. I might have to try that.

yeah it works well, i will try to post a pic this arvo when the missus gets home and tells me where the camera is...;)

umm as far as I can remember, mag 350's have no biomedia in them. I would swap one of those out for something that can hold some media, or add a sponge filter - quick

You could add some bio-balls or similar media to the interior plastic container that holds the filter sleeve. It does open, and might help some.

With knowing your water parameters how do you know your having biological filtration problems? Generally overstocking mean overfiltration(2 magnum 350s is far from "plenty") and more water changes.

I would suggest testing your ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and pH levels to start.
