Do I need it to cycle a 55 gal tank with only 14 fry about 3/4" long? I just set it up yesterday and I don't have a sponge that I can take out from an existing tank. I am putting 7 white calvus and 7 electric yellow labs in the tank and I won't be adding anything. If I do need it how much should I buy? Where can I get some? Is there a place in MA or maybe an online store? How much does it cost? Thanks For all you help.

Howdy,

You need to cycle every tank. Period. However, bottled bacteria will help you to speed that process up.

Fry are often more sensitive than adults to "bad" water.

I called marineland and they said it will be fully cycled in 11 days

With their product? If so, how do I keep the bacteria alive without any ammonia and nitrite in the tank? Last question, how much would I need? For example, add x number of oz on day one, or 3 oz. every 4 th day. etc etc. Thanks again for the help.

They have a dose that will do a 30gal tank and a dose that does a 90gal tank so what you do is get the right amount to do at least the tank size you have.

If you were doing a 55gal you would get 2 of the 30gal doses or 1 of the 90gal doses.... you can't overdose so allways go for a little more than you need.

You add it on the day you add the fish..... remember to declor the water or it will kill the bacteria.

I've had the water test off the scale for nitrates but I've never lost any fish and the guy told me that some test kits read wierd during the cycle.

you should add the stuff after you add the fish, i think if you add it before and wait the bacteria will starve to death.

on that last question, why dont you just read the bottle? :D

lol delgado, because no one has it around here. they only sell the other stuff called "Cycle" which works against cycling your tank but makes them lots of money. If the LFS doesn't have it in stcok then what's to read. BTW, thanks for the help.
