I have two bare bottom tanks, with bio wheel filters. Your telling me that the only bacteria or "bactria" as you call it, is growing on the glass? So basically you would say I could pull these bio wheel filters and my fish would be just fine.

they can grow on the inside of your filter in the intake in the impeller, everywhere on the inside of the filter.
 
Oops, the first time I read this I read "bio balls" for some strange reason.

But yeah, I've had filters with biowheels that worked wonderfully.

Ok so I could just remove the bio wheels and there will be no rise in my ammonia levels at all? This is your recommendation?

i just read his article and yes thats what it said. the guy removed the wheels and had no spike of amonia. maybe he tried this on a 125 with a neon in it!!!hahahahaha:D:ROFL:
