Hagen's BioMax for Fluval filters are larger and hollow where Hagen's version for their AquaClear filters are much smaller and are solid.

They are both made of the same material, so they have the same area compared by weight. Hagan had supply issues dealing with the original bio max being manufacture in a different part of the world from where the filters are being made.

Fluval and AquaClear are both made by Hagen so I would imagine they are very similar if not the same.

This sounds about right. I didn't know Hagen made both. Guess you learn something new everyday. The media looks about the same but petsmart was out of the Fluval kind so I couldn't compare size or anything like that.

This applies for the AC70 and lower models. The AC110 comes with the bigger and hollow ceramic rings.

There have been AC110s showing up with the new smaller cylinder biomax.

My AC110 had the smaller cylinders as well.
