I have the opportunity to pick up a group of 5 to 10 Biotodoma Wavrini at about 1.5" each. Have any other members kept or had any experience with them? I am stongly considering adding them to my 125g with the OH Tapajos. :naughty: Anyone have any experience to offer outside the standard Google search? They seem rather short lived for life span but an interesting species to keep none the less.

I haven't kept them, but I saw some adults at a LFS and was blown away at how big (6" SL) and how thick they were!!! I thought, before seeing them, that a 50 breeder would be fine ... I have since changed my opinion!! *lol* Their faces were amazingly blue though, putting a lot of discus to shame.

I have only seen them as adults in pics online but I like them so far. They are not common which I like even more as well. They have simliar parameter requirements as the OH's. If you had the opportunity to buy them and the OH's were the same size would you do it and mix them?

I've kept them a few times over the years and in my expereince they are very skitish and mine would hide alot. Beautiful fish but I could never get used to their personality. Not as interactive as most of my other Cichlids. Other than that, they are mellow for sure and tankmates should be choosen carefully so they aren't bullied.

Maybe as a grow out tank, but not permanently for two reasons. One is becuase I try to keep my cichlids geographically similiar, and they are too far apart. Two I wonder if the similiar body shape might trigger aggression ... I've seen cupido in tanks be somewhat nasty with each other so ...

Worth a try, they are great looking cichlids. Just have a backup plan.

I will have to pass then. I am going away from stocking anything that will need a backup plan (125g should not be a growout for a 6" adult SA cichlid and the 225g will be too aggressive for them) also this tank is in my dining room. It will have somewhat high traffic so very skidish species would only be forced into be more recluse.

I appreciate your comments driftwood and DP before I went back there. I am heading to that LFS to pick up another Acarichthys Heckelii female for my male today. Good to get some feedback before then.

Well of course not silly, a 180 gallon min. for a grow out tank for a 6" SA cichlid, a 220 gallon is preferable ... ;)
