Xenopus laevis but hopefully soon to have a Ctenopoma acutirostre. It also has Anubias congensis and some Ceratophyllum submersum in the corner. The submersum isn't really a congo specific plant, but it is found worldwide, so I threw it in.

Biotope is an area of uniform environmental conditions providing a living place for a specific assemblage of plants and animals.

I.e. trying to replicate the natural environment of a certain area or species as close as possible.

it's pretty much creating an accurate miniatrue replica of a certain area in the world. For example copying a sout east asian biotope would involve mimicing the water conditions of the swamps in SE asian and having an abundance of driftwood. the plants and animals would all be species that could be found naturally in that area, such as java fern and java moss for plants and for stocking using loaches, danios, rasboras, barbs, gourami, etc...

A specifically planted tank with specific fish and aquascaping. A tank with mbuna and Bolbotis heteroclita is not a biotope, at least as far as I'm concerned.

It can be planted or not planted. The idea is to replicate the natural environment of the fish as much as possible. For example, if you do an Amazonian biotope you would decorate it to look like the Amazon and only keep Amazonian fish and/or plants in there.
