biotype crawdad and bluegill... pond setup.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Getting the pond set up and balanced is pretty important. Make sure you have a rock area not just all sand for the crayfish, and if your pond is only 16 inches deep bluegill and sunfish won't be happy without an area of cover. Something covering a deccent surface area that they can shelter under. Otherwise expect a heron to visit and regularly clean you out.

ya taking a fish from the illegal is unless you have a fishing licence (should have metioned it before) unless it is invasive. but my main point is why take a fish from a bigger habittat that it has know all of its life and put him in a small pond. when you can go to the lfs and save a fish that is in a cramped 10g tank

A fishing license is like $20 in most places, and in some you can get a day license for $5-10. It is also perfectly legal to take many fish. I have a native tank of bluegill and pumpkinseed that are perfectly legal to take from the pond, but impossible to find at a pet store. Do you really think that all the cichlids that are bought and sold around the country are captive bred? A good deal come from the wild. Sure, their habitat may shrink, but so does their chance of predation.

Id go deeper than 18 inches. Id go for 2ft personally
