Oh my...

So its a hybrid?

I will try to take a better pic....

Try to take the head shot side view. Is this particular bichir a captive breed...? If so, then it's a possible hybrid. If it's wild caught then that is something else.

Holy snap!!! Head kinda look like some of those Nigerian lap but the pattern is odd and with 16 finlets. Could this be a Nigerian lap x PBB hybrid. That's the only possibility that I can think of.

My Indonesian buddy got lap x pbb hybrid but they are only 2". Still hard to compare.
i know japan has had lap x Pbb hybrid. i've seen it in magazine.

thanks for all the help.. will try snap a pic of the head....
i'm nt too sure if this is wc or captive bred...

It could be, the head is Lapradei for sure, the 16 fin lets is very uncommon for Laps.

I've seen a couple of Nigerian Lap with 16 finlets with our wild caught shipment back in 2009. It's that weird patterns that got me thinking of something else. Yes do aggree that it's uncommon for laps to have 16 finlets even 15 is also uncommon. Mostly 13-14.

I knew from the start of this thread the picture looked familiar.

Now I know why.
I am pretty sure that Bichir comes from a farm here in Japan.
I saw many of them being sold as PBB for real cheap during the summer at a few inches long.

I came close to buying some as they were so cheap, but they didn't look like all the other PBB that I had on my list to possibly buy.

The owners of a place called "Aqua Art" here were selling loads of them and as I know them well told me they were Hybrids of Lap x CB PBB.

They were cheap, but not as cheap as Good pure Lapradei, so I skipped them.

They looked bang on like that fish.
