Hi there bird experts..

Now normally I wouldn't ask silly questions, like, Can I combine Doves and Conures?

Let me explain the situation..

I have 3 doves (1m/2f) that were being kept in a long shallow cage, with no flight room. They kept trying to fly in this shallow cage, and injuring their wings(minor blood feather breaks). They obviously needed more space to move around.

We then have a single Pearly Conure in a very large flight aviary. (6x8x8') This guy just came in, and had some socializing and perching/balance issues (he was at the breeding facility too long).. so we put him in the large aviary to get used to the sights and sounds of the storefront, and for more stimulation and better socialization.. Upon moving him, he was very shy and clinged to the bars of the door, never went to the main aviary perch or navigate his way around the habitat much.

I've read the only issues I will have with the Doves and Conure living togethor would be that most Conures will be aggressive and territorial to the Doves. Many sites also state that it depends on the individual personality of each bird.

Since combining them, the Conure seems more playful and seems to have more courage. The conure comes off the door more, walks out into the main aviary perch to inquire about the doves activities.. Haven't seen any aggression, but we are keeping a close eye on it.. It seems like the doves are improving his progression towards being a quality companion pet.. ??

Does anyone have any comments or suggestions? Any birdy advice would be greatly appreciated for this situation..

I don't know, sounds like everything is working out for the best. I use to raise various pigeon breeds and gamebirds species. I had a lone Chuckar Partridge who one day was beat up pretty bad and lost all confidence. I kept him by himself for a while and he became real shy and hid most of the time. So one day I put him in with my pigeons in a large flight pen and he perked right back up. The other birds looked up to him as "The God Pigeon". Who would have thought that doves/pigeons make good "dither" birds!

That is kind of what I was thinking.. a "dither" bird. The conure sure is acting different with them around. Hopefully food and diet won't be an issue.

The laid back atitude of tyhe doves would make the conure more confident i doubt depending on his age it that he will become a tame bird.

IMO i would not mix the two, sofbills and hookbills usually do not get along well and can result in the doves, or the conure getting hurt.
